Meet the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund Board of Directors. We are an all volunteer board of directors who oversee the operations of the Needy Fund.
Anne Brennan was appointed Executive Editor of the Cape Cod Times in May 2020. She previously served as Editor-In-Chief for the MetroWest Daily News, the Milford Daily News and 15 weekly publications/websites in the Boston Metro area from December 2016 to April 2020.
Anne started as a reporter at the Cape Cod Times and held progressively more responsible roles including Assistant Managing Editor for News and Projects and Assistant Managing Editor for Digital. She was the founding editor of CapeCodOnline.com, the Times’ former lifestyle and entertainment website. During her years working as a reporter, she covered a variety of beats and was involved with several investigative projects including the then-failed pollution cleanup at Joint Base Cape Cod in the mid-1990s. For many years Anne worked with newsroom staff to organize an annual in-house auction to raise money for the Needy Fund.
Peter is retired president and publisher of the Cape Cod Times, a role he held for over 20 years. He was also president and publisher of the Providence Journal and regional vice president for Gannett Company, the parent organization of both media companies, USA Today and hundreds of local media outlets across 46 states. Peter began his publishing career with Dow Jones & Company after earning a BS degree from Western Michigan University; he has an MBA from Suffolk University.
Peter served as president of the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund since being named publisher of the Times for over 20 years. He also serves on the board of the Kelley Foundation, Massachusetts Newspaper Publishers Association, and New England Newspaper and Press Association. He is a past board chairman for Cape & Islands United Way and had the privilege to serve as a director with numerous non-profit organizations including Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Art, Cape Cod Community College Foundation, Osterville Rotary Club, Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce, Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, and the Joshua A. Nickerson Society. Peter is a past recipient of the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce Patrick M. Butler Community Service Award; Patrick was a dear friend and board member of the Needy Fund.
Peter and his wife, Jeannie, live in Osterville. They have three grown children and three grandkids!
Stan is a Government Banking Officer with the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, serving Municipal Entities across Cape Cod, and has 32 years of banking experience here in the Hyannis area. A resident of Cape Cod for 45 years, Stan currently resides in the village of Centerville. Stan also serves as the Treasurer of the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, a board member of the BlueCoats of Barnstable and was a past Chair of the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Bryant University, Stan holds a BS in Business Administration and Finance.
A well-known local entrepreneur on Cape Cod, Tim is currently developing a 53-unit workforce and affordable apartment building in Hyannis, MA to address the current housing crisis. Occupancy is projected in late 2022.
Tim founded and operated Bank of Cape Cod for 10 years, and after selling it in 2016, he consulted for the last 4 years in the community banking space. Prior to creating the bank, Tim was the co-owner of Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises, a Cape Cod Based tourist attraction. From 1985-2001, Mr. Telman served in various senior banking positions in Boston with Bank of New England, Bank of Boston, and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Tim is currently an active board member with the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund, and with the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) of Cape Cod. He has been active in youth sports for the YMCA, Barnstable Little League, Barnstable Youth Soccer and Barnstable AAU Basketball. He was also an active board member for Sturgis Public Charter School, Saint Francis Xavier Preparatory School, Marstons Mills East Horace Mann Public Charter School, Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, and Hyannis Youth & Community Foundation. Tim received his BA in Economics from Boston College and his MBA from Babson College, and resides in Barnstable, MA.
Gerry Desautels has worked in the development and communications field for Cape non-profits since the late 1990s. During that time, he has assisted in raising millions of dollars for regional nonprofits, currently with Outer Cape Health Services as senior development and communications officer. Gerry holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Boston University. He is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and a 2021 nonprofit management certificate graduate of the Institute for Nonprofit Practice. A former co-chair of Philanthropy Day on Cape Cod, Gerry currently is a director of Philanthropy Partners of the Cape and Islands.
Retired President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare, Former board chair of the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, former Board Chair of the Cape and Islands Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, former board chair of the New England Voluntary Hospitals of America, past member of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, past member of the board of the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, and board of Massachusetts Hospital Association.
Part owner C C Construction Inc. for 38 years which recently moved its main office to Plymouth MA but still heavily involved with Cape and Islands. Former Brewster Selectman and Co-Chair of Brewster Bicentennial and Board Member of Needy Fund for 13 years.
Retired CEO of the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod.1983-2017. Currently serves on Board of Needy Fund, Cape Cod Academy, Cummaquid Golf Club, and Heritage Museum Investment Fund. Past Service includes Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Foundation, Kelley Foundation, Board of Selectman for the Town of Dennis, Cape Museum of Natural History, and the Raymond Moore Foundation.
Is Of Counsel within the Real Estate Department of Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP, and a member of the firm’s Land Use Practice Group. Sarah focuses her practice on real estate litigation, with an emphasis on land use and title related matters. Sarah and her husband, Michael, have lived on Cape Cod since 1993 and raised their children in Orleans, where they reside full time.

Past president (24 years) of Cape Cod Baseball League, Inducted into CCBL Hall of Fame, Trustee for The Yawkey Foundation, Medical Reserve Corp, American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team, deployed around country numerous times including Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.
Currently helping coordinate vaccination and testing clinic throughout Cape Cod for Whole Health Pharmacy. Judy is a pharmacist by profession.
President of Woonteiler Ink—an award-winning PR and marketing communications firm—who has specialized in nonprofit and corporate services consulting for more than 30 years. Previously VP/Hill & Knowlton, Director of PR for KK&M Advertising, Director of Communications for United Way of Mass. Bay, Assistant Professor and Writing Director at Boston University, and a published novelist. Pro bono Marketing Director of Major Crisis Relief Fund.
A lifelong Cape Codder, Claire has played a pivotal role in raising funds for the Needy Fund as chair of St. George Greek Orthodox Church’s Charity Golf Classic. Her role at the Centerville church extends far beyond the annual fundraiser and has included serving in its youth ministry.
A graduate of Barnstable High School, Claire received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Boston College. Her professional background includes stints as a television producer at WCVB-TV and The Monitor Channel. Claire and her husband, Denis, have two children and live in West Yarmouth.
Michael Mecenas is the Founder and President of Health Ministry, Inc. He is a mental health clinician and a trilingual medical interpreter at Boston Medical Center and Cape Cod Hospital.
